Accommodation Suggestions

For EuroPython 2007, a number of suggestions were published for places to stay. Feel free to add your own recommendations (or comment on the existing ones) in the appropriate category below. (Note that the EuroPython organisers do not endorse the establishments mentioned here in any way.)

Room sharing at the conference hotel

For fun and budget reasons, some people might want to share a 2 bed room with another Python geek instead of taking a (not much cheaper and more boring) single bed room. See RoomSharing for details.

Hotels close to the conference hotel

Bed and Breakfast

Various resources exist to locate "bed and breakfast" accommodation in Vilnius. Such resources include the following:

Inexpensive Hotels

Some suggestions of inexpensive hotels approximately 15-20 minutes walking distance from the conference centre:

  • e-GuestHouse Hotel - "A nice clean hotel... in the city centre."

  • Algis Guest House - "...it looks as if they've got some nice apartments which are not so expensive and are in the old town."

  • JNN Hostel - A youth hostel 10 minutes from the conference hotel, €17 per night for a single, €29 for a twin.

Youth Hostels

Vilnius has a number of youth hostels situated in the town. Useful information about travelling to (and in) Lithuania can also be found on the Lithuanian Hostels Web site.

Review by Rene Dudfield: I stayed in the Old Town Hostel in 2007. It was quite nice, situated in the pretty old town part of Vilnius. So there were lots of fun things around me, and things like a supermarket and a market(have a chat to the old ladies who stand around talking, and selling berries or herbs) which are good if you're on a budget. It's a long walk to the conference hotel though. You can bus most of the way to the conference, and the Vilnius bus's are really cheap. I remember it being fairly clean, and the staff were nice. They have two hostels, and one of them is better than the other (the one at the adress on the website is the good one). They had free unencrypted wifi when I was there... however it's dhcp was buggered - so you needed to set your ip statically. Which was kind of a good thing, since other people couldn't get on so the download speeds were fast enough. If you don't mind a small place, sharing with others, you want to see the old town, and you don't mind a walk, it's a good cheap place to stay for a python hacker on a budget. Note, that most people stay at the conference hotel it seems - so you'll be a bit away from the action. But I mainly just slept at the hostel, and went back at night. Lots of fun things are in the old town, so I can recommend staying in the old town, and taking a long walk to the conference to spend the day there. 34Lt($17 AUD, €9.84) a night for a dorm bed, cheaper if you share a room with someone you know. ps. catch the bus from the airport if you arrive during the day... it's easy, and really cheap :) -- hope this helps.
