Planning: Timetable
Now that we know the conference dates, it should be possible to plan backwards and set suitable dates for each major deadline. Previous EuroPython timetables/timelines are compared with PyCon (US and UK) here. The periods stated are in days before the first day of the conference proper.

Note that PyCon is unusual in that registration does not tend to open before the schedule is announced.
Here's a proposed timetable/timeline:
Deadline |
EuroPython 2008 |
Date |
Comment |
Talk submission opens |
129 days |
29th February 2008 |
Adopting PyCon UK's approach |
Talks deadline |
69 days (60) |
29th April 2008 |
Two months seems generous enough and is traditional |
Schedule announced |
55 days |
13th May 2008 |
Allow two weeks for scheduling |
Registration opens |
55 days |
13th May 2008 |
Registration is separate - open when the schedule is known |
Registration ends |
7 days |
30th June 2008 |
Traditional 7 day deadline |
Obviously, we can do like PyCon UK and open registration as early as we are able to. The above suggestion really provides the latest point at which registration should open, and it would arguably be better to let those already persuaded to come to EuroPython to register even earlier if possible.
Here's the revised timetable/timeline due to delays:
Deadline |
EuroPython 2008 |
Date |
Comment |
Talk submission opens |
91 days |
7th April 2008 |
Delay in agreeing themes, infrastructure |
Talks deadline |
46 days (45) |
22nd May 2008 |
Submission period is compressed because of the delay |
Schedule announced |
39 days |
29th May 2008 |
Allow one week for scheduling |
Registration opens |
55 days |
13th May 2008 |
Registration is separate |
Registration ends |
7 days |
30th June 2008 |
Traditional 7 day deadline |
