Venue

The conference venue for EuroPython 2008 is the Reval Hotel Lietuva, which was also the venue for the previous year's conference. This hotel is about 10-15 minutes walking time from the main attractions of the old town, situated just across the river from the town centre.

The conference will take place from Monday 7th July (the first day of talks) until Wednesday 9th July (the final day of talks) followed immediately by sprints from Thursday 10th July (the first day of sprints) until Saturday 12th July (the final day of sprints).

Travel Documents and Visas

Lithuania is a member of the European Union and a Schengen area member. From 30th March 2008, the final internal EU border controls should be lifted in accordance with Lithuania's membership of the Schengen area. See the following pages for full details:

EU citizens do not require a visa to travel to Lithuania but will need a form of identity. Travellers should, regardless of citizenship, acquaint themselves with the applicable regulations - this site does not seek to offer definitive advice on such matters.

Money

  • The currency of Lithuania is the Lithuanian Litas (LTL): EUR 1 = LTL 3.4528.
  • ATMs (cash machines) are widespread and typically accept VISA, VISA Electron, MasterCard and Maestro.

  • Major credit cards are accepted almost everywhere except for some small shops and very small hotels.

Useful Facts

  • July 6th is a national holiday in Lithuania.
  • According to some statistics, weather is said to be moderate or mild in summer with July temperatures averaging 17C. However, recent summers are said to have produced temperatures as high as 30C.
